Scott Howard began as an assistant coach with the men's tennis program in 2019 and was elevated to head coach of the men's tennis team in 2020. He was named the head coach of the women's tennis team for the start of Spring 2021, recruiting for the team in 2020.

Howard has 12 years of head collegiate coaching experience and has taught tennis for over 25 years.

Howard was the first men's and women's tennis coach at Holy Names University (2012-16), building it into a winning program in three years. He also was the head coach at USF (1997-99), Texas-Pan American (1999-2001) and the University of the Pacific (2002).

While at UOP he coached the Big West Conference's Player of the Year in 2002.

Howard still competes in USTA tournaments and was ranked No. 1 in singles in the USTA Northern California Men’s 50 & over division and No. 11 in the United States in 2018 in singles. In the past 14 years, Howard has won a total of 70 USTA Northern California tournaments. Howard is on the USTA Northern California Adult Tournament Committee and is a USTA national and sectional seeder. In the past, Howard has coached the USTA Northern California Pacific Zonal 12 & under team and the USTA Northern California 16 & under team at the Winter National Championships.

Howard graduated from San Francisco State with a Bachelor's in Broadcast Communications. Howard comes from a very well-known and respected Bay Area tennis family. His father Gil, has won 13 national championships and was #1 in the world in the Men's 55 & over division. His two brothers (Mike and Kevin) were both ranked in the top 500 in the world (ATP), and his sister (Susan) played #1 at San Francisco State University.
